Evaluation: Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Education

Final Evaluation of the Joint Programme on Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Education

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The ICON-INSTITUTE was commissioned by the UNESCO to carry out the Final Evaluation of the Joint Programme on “Empowering Adolescent Girls and Young Women through Education”. The Programme, part of the Global Partnership for Girls’ and Women’s Education, was implemented in Mali, Nepal, and Tanzania. The Programme aimed to keep educational opportunities open for adolescent girls (10-19) and young women (20-25) by leveraging the strengths of UNESCO, UN Women, and UNFPA. Its intended results included enabling policies for women's participation in the economy, better teaching content, improved teacher capacities, access to financial assets for young women, safer school environments, and the creation of health-education linkages for sexual education.

The final evaluation combined formative and summative components, assessing the Programme's achievements, sustainability, and potential for future replication. It examined successfully the multi-sectoral approach across education, health, and youth development. ICON’s experts used a methodology blending qualitative and quantitative data collection through interviews and focus group discussions. Findings, conclusions, and recommendations were presented in validation meetings and summarized in a final report.
