PROJECT DESCRIPTION

From 2001 to 2015, Mauritania’s development was guided by the Strategic Framework for the Fight against Poverty (CSLP), which focused on reducing poverty, particularly in rural areas. The project financed by the European Union / EDF supported national institutions in implementing and monitoring the EU’s budget support for CSLP III.

ICON was commissioned by the EU and was responsible to establish a Programme Management Unit (PMU) to oversee the project, coordinate experts, and ensure quality outcomes. The project strengthened the National Statistical System to improve policy design and evaluation. Public finance management was enhanced, alongside anti-corruption efforts involving civil society. It also supported poverty reduction policies in the education and health sectors. Information systems in these sectors were improved. The project contributed to shaping the post-2015 development strategy. It laid the groundwork for reforms by leveraging national resources such as agriculture and fisheries.
