PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Accurate Census data is valuable and essential for economic development, transportation, healthcare, education and business planning and decision making. In 2022, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Mozambican National Institute of Statistics (INE), ICON-INSTITUT Public Sector GmbH, in partnership with the Center for Policy Analysis (CAP) from Eduardo Mondlane University, successfully managed the development of 12 thematic studies based on the 2017 Mozambique Population Census. This project was part of the broader effort under the UNFPA’s 2017-2020 National Program aimed at supporting Mozambique’s government in its population and development strategies.
The studies addressed critical topics such as fertility, mortality, migration, urbanization, gender dimensions, and the elderly population, providing detailed demographic insights essential for national policy-making. As the project leader, ICON-INSTITUT ensured the timely coordination of over 40 team of researchers, technical experts, and stakeholders across various fields, facilitating a multi-disciplinary approach to data analysis. This effort resulted in high-quality, policy-relevant outputs that enhanced understanding of Mozambique’s demographic landscape. The thematic studies continue to influence policy direction, benefiting from the rigorous peer review and methodological standards set during the project.
