Improving the quality of TVET in light manufacturing

Improving the quality of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in light manufacturing in Rwanda

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Rwanda faces significant challenges of unemployment and underemployment, with an average national unemployment rate of 21.1% in 2021, particularly affecting the 16-30 age group. The service sector's growth has slowed, and industrial sector job creation is limited. The 'Made in Rwanda' strategy aims to boost industrial value added, focusing on light manufacturing. However, challenges include a lack of skilled workers and technical knowledge.

In this context the GIZ programme "Skills Development for Economic Transformation (SD4T)” aims to promote pro-employment growth in Rwandan light manufacturing, aligning with inclusiveness, productivity, and environmental sustainability principles. The approach includes promoting technical education, private sector development, and economic policy advice. Within the scope of the SD4T programme, ICON has been awarded to implement the project "Improving the quality of technical and vocational education and Training (TVET) in light manufacturing in Rwanda " and supports GIZ by providing technical expertise in the following four working areas: workplace learning activities, curriculum development and training of trainers, improvement of the quality of teaching, and further training for people already working.
