Eco-Emploi: TVET & Skills Development

Promotion of Economy and Employment (Eco-Emploi) – Field of activity: TVET and Skills Development

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Eco-Emploi Programme was financed by GIZ and involved integrated measures of skills development, private sector development and labour market interventions to strengthen the productivity and competiveness of selected economic sectors for employment creation in Rwanda.

ICON implemented successfully the ‘Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) component’ focused on the support to the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC), the Workforce Development Authority (WDA), the Rwanda Polytechnic, the Private Sector Federation and Sector Skills Councils, TVET schools and enterprises and other actors to introduce and pilot ‘dual’ training in selected sectors (wood, tourism, ICT, creative industries).

The activities supported the training of TVET teachers and the employment-oriented training in selected occupations. This comprised the development and implementation of training of school-based TVET trainers and in-company trainers (including recognition of current competencies as well as quality assurance), the analysis of skills development needs and the development and implementation of employment-oriented further training modules for specific skills development needs in priority sectors (including standards for Recognition of Current Competences) in line with the Rwandan Technical Qualifications Framework (RTQF) in selected trades.
