Financed by the European Union and commissioned by the European Parliament, the study “EU and ILO: Shaping the Future of Work” assesses the cooperation between the EU and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), reviewing past achievements and identifying future challenges. The study informs the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) on how EU policies and legislation may need to adapt to evolving labour market trends.
ICON-INSTITUT is conducting the study in two phases. The first examines the EU’s contribution to ILO initiatives, the impact of ILO standards on EU employment policies, and the role of EU Member States in implementing ILO conventions. The second outlines future perspectives by analyzing key trends in the world of work and assessing their implications for EU employment policies and the ILO’s mission. The study integrates findings from the ILO report on the "Future of Work" and provides recommendations for legislative adaptation.
ICON-INSTITUT’s tasks:
- Conducting desk research, literature reviews, and targeted interviews with authorities and social partners.
- Analyzing policy implications and potential amendments to EU employment legislation.
- Providing clear policy recommendations for the European Parliament.
