External Evaluation (2018-2022) of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP)

 

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) is UNESCO’s first and only category 1 Research Institute in the Asia-Pacific that contributes to the Global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and notably SDG 4.7. The Institute operates on a global mandate (with specific focus on the Asia Pacific region) and develops programmes that promote social and emotional learning (SEL), innovate digital pedagogies, and empower the youth.

The evaluation aimed to take stock of the progress and achievements of the Institute, including an assessment of the implementation of recommendations made in the first evaluation. The evaluation, conducted from April to September 2023, covered the period 2018-2022, and focused on Relevance, Coherence, Effectiveness and signs of Impact, Efficiency, Sustainability and considered additional criteria of innovation and creativity. The evaluation was based on desk review, semi-structured interviews, evaluation visit, online survey. The evaluation was concluded with the evaluation report and the validation workshop. The conclusions and recommendations of the external evaluation have been used to assist UNESCO’s Education Sector, UNESCO MGIEP’s Governing Board and major stakeholders in making informed decisions regarding UNESCO MGIEP’s future strategic vision, its institutional setting and operational framework.
