PROJECT DESCRIPTION

ICON is one of the first German Consulting companies which has been working for GIZ in Myanmar since 2014. This was the starting point to getting familiar with the country and culture, meeting relevant actors and building up a profound reputation in the country. For the Financial Sector Development Programme (FSDP) which was financed by GIZ, ICON contributed to improve the access of SMEs to formal, demand oriented and sustainable financial services provided by the Small and Medium Industrial Development Bank (SMIDB), the Yoma Bank and the Kanbawza Bank (KBZ).

ICON’s team of experts developed and implemented successfully SME-Finance Strategies and supported all banks in applying new structures and processes. According to a nearly non existing monitoring measures a new profound and functioning M&E system was developed for each bank and implemented to analyse and track the individual bank’s SME loan portfolio. The second part of the consulting services was to strengthen the capacities of the bank’s employees in a remarkable way. Comprehensive SME-finance trainings were conducted covering financial literacy, accounting, SME lending process, credit cycle and the role of the credit officer, financial statements and analysis, financial ratios, credit risk management, credit score card, monitoring and recovery management, business/product development, business planning, SME costumer training. The banks were able to provide suitable loan products to their customers, to manage their loan portfolios and to monitor related potential financial risks.
