German Master Craftsman Standards – Mechatronics

Adoption of German Master Craftsman Standards – Training Mechatronics

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aimed to expand the training offerings of SHRDC by introducing a programme based on the German Meister Diploma, starting with mechatronics.

ICON-INSTITUT was contracted by the Government of Malaysia to conduct a twinning programme, combining Malaysian and German expertise. The process began with a fact-finding mission to assess local conditions and demand. An inception test evaluated candidates' initial knowledge, and the training programme was designed in phases. In phase 1, Malaysian instructors provided foundational training, followed by phase 2, where German experts conducted advanced training. One participant was selected as a counterpart for phase 3, which involved distance-monitored training. In phase 4, trainees underwent a month of intensive training in Aachen, Germany. The programme concluded with an exam certified by the Chamber of Crafts and Trade. Graduates achieved different certification levels: Level 3 received the "Malaysian Meister Certificate," Level 2 the "Mechatronics Technologist" certificate, and Level 1 the "Mechatronic Technologist Assistant." Level 2 participants had the opportunity to retake the exam and achieve Level 3 after a two-month preparation period.
