Technical Cooperation with Mozambique: Promotion of the HIV Workplace Program in the Education Sector
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The GIZ project (financed by the BMZ) aimed to support the implementation of an HIV workplace programme within Mozambique’s education sector, focusing on decentralized education administration, selected schools, and vocational training institutions. It also aimed to align the HIV and AIDS response with the national education sector plan and HIV strategy.
Part of GIZ’s broader initiative, "Promotion of Primary Education and Vocational Training in Mozambique," the project sought to ensure children, adolescents, and particularly girls and young women receive quality education and vocational training suited to their living conditions. The project followed a multi-level approach, where local experiences from provinces were integrated into national-level dialogue.
Health Focus/ICON-INSTITUT provided technical assistance to the Ministry of Education and its sub-national structures, particularly in Sofala, Inhambane, and Manica provinces, to improve gender-sensitive workplace programmes and HIV prevention. They also supported selected vocational training institutions in implementing HIV workplace programmes.
