Skills Development related to Technicians of Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plants
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
India has over 170 combined wastewater treatment plants (CETPs) and thousands of effluent treatment plants (ETPs) across industries, all of which play a crucial role in managing industrial wastewater to control pollution. However, a sample study revealed that the operators and technicians running these plants often lack formal qualifications - 90% of them have not received professional or vocational training and instead rely on experience gained on the job. Moreover, there are no standardized skills development programs tailored to the specific needs of ETPs and CETPs. To address this gap, GIZ partnered with the Skill Council for Green Jobs (SCGJ) to develop qualification programs for technicians and helpers working in these treatment plants (financed by BMZ).
ICON-INSTITUT was contracted to provide trainers with essential skills in training methods, didactics, soft skills, and examination systems, aligning with SCGJ standards. This certification enabled them to offer regular training courses for technicians and helpers. Up to 15 trainers were trained in a 5-day, 40-hour session that combined both theoretical and practical courses. Their qualification was validated through a written examination conducted by SCGJ, ensuring that the trainers were fully equipped to conduct skills development programs for the wastewater treatment sector.
