PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The integrated Naga River Revitalisation Project (iNRRP), funded under the Cities Development Initiative for Asia (CDIA), aimed to revitalize the Naga River and address key issues such as flooding, water pollution, health concerns, and informal settlements affecting the city.
ICON-INSTITUT was contracted to focus on developing a pre-feasibility study (PFS) for phased revitalization efforts in areas like sanitation, drainage, sewerage, flood management, and disaster risk reduction, with additional components on waste management, river transport, and climate change. Key objectives included identifying financing options for the project, addressing capacity gaps, and developing strategies for implementation. Following the PFS, an extension report and action plan were created to broaden the project's impact, and promotional materials were prepared. Key results of the project included improved river water quality, reduced casualties and economic damage during typhoons, improved living conditions for informal settlers, enhanced cultural and aesthetic value of the river, boosted tourism and economic activities, and the development of alternative transportation options along the river.
