PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As part of the renewed European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), Association Agreements and Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreements are being negotiated with several ENP East countries. To monitor the implementation of these agreements, reliable and timely statistics are essential. For data to be comparable with EU standards, ENP East countries require training in EU statistical methods and international standards.

ICON-INSTITUT was contracted to organize five training courses on selected statistical topics for national statistical authorities (NSAs) from ENP-East countries, with Central Asian countries participating if spaces were available. These courses focused on practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary for data production and dissemination, facilitating discussions on transitioning to EU standards and fostering regional cooperation. Each course accommodated up to 20 participants, with interpretation between English and Russian. Three courses were held in ENP-East countries, and two were in EU countries. Topics included quality management, statistical metadata, user-friendly dissemination, national accounts, and structural business statistics. A total of 117 participants from 12 countries attended, with training provided by 17 experts from eight European countries. The courses helped strengthen the capacity of ENP-East countries in applying EU standards and improving the quality of their official statistics.
