Centres of Competence in the Construction and Wood working sectors

Developing and establishing two Centres of Competence in the Construction and Wood working and furniture sectors

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The GIZ project “Developing and establishing two Centres of Competence in the Construction and Wood working and furniture sectors” is financed by the German BMZ and part of the program "Technical Education and Labor Market Development". The program objective is to improve the employment situation of young adults in Egypt. The Egyptian government has placed a strong emphasis on construction and infrastructure as a key driver of financial stability and urban growth. The Construction field in Egypt comprises: Building Construction, Infrastructure and Industrial Construction. The country’s tendency to expand in the field of construction and building in recent times has intensified the demand for labor in all areas of construction and opened new areas that workers were not aware of. Also the Egyptian wood working and furniture sector is an important component of the Egyptian economy in terms of value added and foreign exchange generation. The sector is very labour-intensive and one of the most important industrial employers with an increasing demand for skilled labour. ICON has therefore been commissioned by the GIZ to apply the sectoral competence development approach and to develop two Centres of Competence (CoC) in the sectors Construction and Wood working/furniture sectors.
