PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The young, growing population presents Egypt with considerable challenges in terms of education, job creation, reducing unemployment and improving living standards. It is estimated that 83% of youth in the 15-29 age cohort do not have a permanent job or are employed informally. The skills they acquire in the education system are not meeting the demands of the private sector. Thus, a comprehensive quality improvement and stronger labour market orientation of the TVET system is a high political priority in Egypt.

The German development cooperation programme “Technical Support for the Comprehensive Technical Education Initiative” addresses the need for sustainable economic development in Egypt and is aligned with the relevant strategic frameworks - specifically, the “Technical Education 2.0” reform of the political partner, the Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MoETE), and the Government of Egypt’s national strategy “Vision 2030”, in correspondence to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

ICON-INSTITUTE provides technical assistance to improve the dual vocational education and training in the priority sectors Tourism/Hospitality and Agrobusiness, in close cooperation with private sector associations and companies.
