Green Resilient & Productive Agricultural Ecosystems

Local and Provincial Economic Development (LPED) – Green Resilient and Productive Agricultural Ecosystems (GRAPE)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project "Local and Provincial Economic Development - Green Resilient and Productive Agricultural Ecosystems” in Nepal supports climate resilient and market-oriented productive agricultural ecosystems fostering economic growth of Sudurpashchim and Karnali provinces. ICON-INSTITUT, with its partner HELVETAS, have been tasked with the support to Action Field 1 and Action Field 3. For AF 1 (economic governance), ICON/HELVETAS set up a project office ensuring the project presence in the Humla Cluster and coordination with relevant stakeholders from the partner municipalities in Simikot and Kharpunath. Regularly organised trainings, workshops and dialogue formats allow to establish sectoral linkages and support improved coordination among local stakeholders. For AF 3 (rolling out), ICON/HELVETAS conducted goal setting workshops in all project clusters to identify joint priorities improving economic development around climate-smart agriculture and natural resource/landscape management. Activities identification and proposal writing workshops for municipality and province stakeholders furthermore offered technical advisory for the drafting of budgeted investment projects for climate-sensitive economic development. These workshops have provided support to strengthening partner municipalities and provinces in their capacity to improve economic development based on climate-resilient and sustainable agriculture.
