Implementation of practice-oriented professional education at selected HE and TVET institutions

The Central Asian labour market is characterised by high youth unemployment, insufficient quality of education and a lack of labour market orientation of the dual system of secondary and tertiary vocational education and training. To overcome these challenges the national strategy documents of the four Central Asian partner countries (Strategy "Kazakhstan-2050", National Development Strategy of the Kyrgyz Republic (2018-2040); National Development Strategy of the Republic of Tajikistan for the period until 2030, Uzbekistan's National Action Strategy 2017-2021) aim the modernisation of national vocational training systems which they consider as a key factor in improving the employability of the labour force.

In this context the project “Implementation of practice-oriented professional education at selected HE and TVET institutions” which is part of the overall GIZ programme "Professional Education for Economic Growth Sectors in Central Asia 5" (PECA) aims to promote reforms of the regulatory framework for secondary vocational and higher education as well as the introduction of qualifications at various levels in the areas of food processing and logistics. The political partners are the ministries of education and science of the four Central Asian partner countries, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan. Implementing partners are universities and vocational schools in each country as well as partnership institutions in Germany and the European Union.

ICON-INSTITUT is providing continued support to national working groups in developing cooperative bachelor programmes in Logistic and TVET programmes in food processing as already done under PECA 4. In addition, ICON supports the programme in the implementation of the PhD programme "Food Technology" (ISCED level 8) at the Kyrgyz State Technical University (KSTU) and in the development of ideas for the integration of green modules/topics in all programmes.
