Local Communities – Health and Adult Literacy, Lot 1

Empowerment and Capacity Building of Local Communities in Planning and Monitoring of Development Plans, Health and Adult Literacy, Lot 1

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The ECOSORN project aimed to reduce poverty in three north-west provinces of Cambodia by boosting household income through increased agricultural production, focusing on the equitable economic and social development of men and women. Smallholder farmers and their families were the primary beneficiaries.

ICON-INSTITUT provided services to empower communities by building the capacity of commune councils (with a focus on women) to plan and monitor development efforts, strengthening human resources in line departments, and supporting village-level management. Additional efforts included raising awareness and providing training on health topics like hygiene, maternal care, and reproductive health, along with promoting adult literacy and kindergarten education, especially for women. The contract under Lot 1 focused on professional enhancement of local communities, including training for commune councils, line department staff, village chiefs, and local organizations.
