Promotion of inclusive financial systems

Central Project Evaluation “Promotion of inclusive financial systems in the MENA region”

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Since the mid 2000´s the microfinance sector in the MENA region has been growing consistently (up to 23% in 2014) with very limited regulations in place. In addition, it was found that the financial inclusion of the youth, women, low-income Jordanians and rural population was lacking behind this growth.

In 2010 the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) (The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development) assessed the situation and decided to support three countries in the region, namely Palestine, Egypt and Jordan towards supporting the regulation of the microfinance sector in these countries.

ICON-INSTITUT conducted an evaluation to rate the success of the project in Jordan and concentrated on aspects of lessons learnt, future improvements and interventions towards increasing the financial inclusion of the target group in Jordan.
