Promotion of Rural Development in Northern Uganda (PRUDEV)

Promotion of Rural Development in Northern Uganda (PRUDEV)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In the past, the agricultural sector in Northern Uganda was characterized by low productivity and limited value addition, resulting in lower yields, significant post-harvest losses, and poorer quality products compared to Central and Western Uganda. There was little investment in agriculture, and access to inputs, services, and markets was highly restricted.

ICON-INSTITUT supported the PRUDEV programme (financed by BMZ, implemented by GIZ) to promote agriculture-based local economic development in nine districts of Northern Uganda. ICON-INSTITUT provided expertise for improving market integration by strengthening the skills of small-scale farmers and MSMEs, promoting climate-smart practices, and facilitating access to financial services. The project also supported the development of farmer organizations, enhanced the processing and marketing of agricultural products, and created employment opportunities, especially for women and young people.
