Support the Incubator/Accelerator Facility at NIRDA

Support the Incubator/Accelerator Facility (I/AF) at NIRDA for the wood Sector in Rwanda

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The light industry in Rwanda, including the wood sector faces challenges in job creation and lacks alignment with principles of inclusivity, productivity, and environmental sustainability. To address these issues, GIZ implements the “Skills Development for Economic Transformation” (SD4T) Programme financed by the BMZ. ICON-INSTITUTE has been involved in the former Eco-Emploi Programme and now continues with the implementation of the follow-up project under SD4T Programme to support the Incubator Accelerator Facility (I/AF) for the wood sector at NIRDA.

Within this framework, ICON-INSTITUTE in consortium with Deutsche Forstservice (DFS) GmbH, is tasked with fortifying and sustainably developing Rwanda's I/AF for wood-processing startups and MSMEs. This facility aims to equip startups and companies along the wood value chain with essential entrepreneurship and business management competencies tailored to their diverse business stages, from conception to growth. Additionally, it will facilitate linkages with timber suppliers and regional exchanges, enhance the capacities of national institutions, and assist NIRDA in establishing an organizational framework for owning and managing the facility. Inclusivity of women and individuals with disabilities is of emphasis. By addressing these challenges and promoting inclusivity, the project seeks to contribute to sustained growth and innovation in the wood sector.
