Almost 60% of the population in Ghana is under 25 years old, and most of these young Ghanaians are either unemployed, underemployed or working in the informal sector. To address the challenges of unemployment/underemployment, poverty and labour migration, the German Development Cooperation in partnership with the Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations in Ghana, builds the capacity of the Ghanaian Labour Department and its affiliated Public Employment Centres (PECs) in Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.
With ICON-INSTITUT’s contributions, national and regional labour departments as well as district-level PECs improve their employment promotion, information and job placement services, and align them better with the needs of the job seeking population (including migrants and returnees) and local companies. Capacity development measures strengthen the effectiveness and efficiency of the PECs related to counselling and referral services, data collection and analysis, and outreach and networking.
