Re-Assessment of Rural Communities’ Cooperatives

Short Term Technical Assistance Support for the Re-Assessment of Cooperatives in Rural Communities

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project aimed to enhance the contribution of Vanuatu's primary sector to the government's development policy (PAA) and support the Cooperative Department in reviewing five secondary cooperatives. It focused on identifying institutional, organizational, economic, and financial challenges and proposing solutions for making the cooperatives more sustainable.

ICON-INSTITUT was contracted to assess the current cooperative monitoring system, updating the system, and drafting a monitoring guide. A one-day workshop was held to present findings to stakeholders, followed by a three-day training for government officers. Additionally, a Management User Manual was developed, and a one-week training for cooperative managers was conducted based on the manual.
