PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The infrastructure in Northern Afghanistan had been significantly damaged, leading to the establishment of the "Regional Infrastructure Development Fund" (RIDF) funded by the German Government. The RIDF focused on medium-sized infrastructure projects (0.5 to 1.5 million EUR) to promote economic and social development. Its priority areas included energy, water supply, sanitation, irrigation, flood protection, and transportation infrastructure. Technical advisory services were provided through Technical Units in five provincial capitals.

ICON-INSTITUT supported the project with the objective to enable Afghan Line Ministries to develop and manage economic and administrative processes, while providing essential infrastructure for local communities. Key results include improved basic infrastructure and enhanced planning and implementation capacities within the local administration.
