Sustainable Development Goals

Capacity Building for Sustainable Development Goals in Aruba

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Government of Aruba has engaged in the process of enhancing the planning of policies related to the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Aruba SDG Commission was involved in the development of a set of SDG accelerators following the UNDP methodology and has identified capacities of civil servants in production and use of data and strategic planning as one of the bottlenecks limiting the acceleration for SDGs.

To remediate this bottleneck, the SDG Commission has contracted ICON-INSTITUT Public Sector GmbH to conduct a gap analysis on the production and use of data as well as on the capacity to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate policies. The gap analysis will then inform on the development of curricula for civil servants and civil society organisations operating in areas relevant to the SDG Roadmap and accelerators and to deliver training and courses along these curricula.

The sustainability of the project was a key element from the design and inception of the project and in this regard, the University of Aruba has been consulted and has become an integral partner of the project with a view to transfer all material developed to the University for future repetitions of the curricula. In addition, all curricula also integrated a training of trainer (ToT) module including pedagogy as well as subject matter content.
