Trade for Employment – Trade Services Development and Capacity Building for Service Providers
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The regional political unrest has deeply affected Jordan's export, resulting in the loss of main markets which traditionally have been among the top destinations of the local industries, adding more pressure on the national economy, which is already facing internal and external economic challenges. To tackle this situation, ICON-INSTITUT is providing organisational development assistance to selected trade service providers in Jordan, contributing to the provision of new and improved export-related services for Jordanian SMEs. ICON also supports the establishment and operation of a new entity called “Jordan Exports”, which is intended to become the national umbrella organisation unifying the country’s export promotion efforts in the long run.
To ensure sustainable impact beyond the lifespan of the project, ICON-INSTITUT supports the establishment of an expert pool for trade services. Selected candidates for the pool will be trained and certified on various export-related topics (e.g. international market research). Similar trainings will be provided to the service providers’ staff to improve their human capacities. The project also supports business linkages between Jordanian producers of sanitizers/ detergents and potential buyers in Germany and further plans to hold virtual workshops to provide export-interested companies with market information and requirements for exporting to the EU. The workshop will focus on export requirements for i) Dead Sea products, pesticides, detergence and ii) Arabic sweets, processed fruits, and vegetables.
